Ministry
Ministry -- meaning "service" -- at NHBC contains four main aspects: worship, fellowship, discipleship, and missions & evangelism.
Worship
We worship God openly and publicly through congregational singing, praying, preaching, and joyful giving according to Scripture. But much mor than that, all of life is to be an act of ongoing worship for the glory of God.
"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship." (Romans 12:1)
"Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, [29] for our God is a consuming fire." (Hebrews 12:28-29)
Fellowship
We share Christian fellowship through mutual humility, love, charity, and service, as well as through the regular practice of shared meals, baptism, and the Lord's Supper, or Communion.
"Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart," (1 Peter 1:22)
"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, [25] not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (Hebrews 10:24–25)
Discipleship
A disciple is a follower of Christ. Our discipleship is our striving by grace to live for Christ in all areas of life, and our encouraging and supporting each other in the love of Christ.
"I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, [2] with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, [3] eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." (Ephesians 4:1-3)
"Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. [2] And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God" (Ephesians 5:1)
"Then Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." (Matthew 16:24)
Missions and Evangelism
Missions and evangelism refers to efforts to reach the world for Christ beginning in our own community. It refers to praying for, striving for, and helping others come to faith in Christ for salvation, grow in their faith by the Spirit, and live out their faith according to the Word.
"And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. [19] Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.'" (Matthew 28:18-20)
