Jesus Came to Save Sinners

11/15/2023

1 Timothy 1:15 is a great consolation to the soul resting in Christ for salvation.

"The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost." (1 Timothy 1:15)

Paul had a great responsibility as an Apostle in the church. God delegated to Paul a spiritual authority in the kingdom of God such that Paul would be the human author of much of the New Testament. But Paul was humble. By God's grace, Paul did not let this authority go to his head in puffed up pride.

Why not? Because Paul never forgot that he was an unworthy sinner. He never forgot God's patience toward him (see verse 16). He never forgot to keep the glory and praise of God as his first priority (see verse 17). The fact that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, which included Paul, dictated everything else about Paul's life and ministry.

Isn't this the kind of servants we should be? Let us be humble. Let us never forget that we are unworthy sinners saved by God's grace. May God allow that we be patient with each other as we remember God's patient with us. May we live and serve for God's glory and praise, not our own. And let us be ever-filled with gratitude, joy, freedom, compassion, and love because of this:

"The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost." (1 Timothy 1:15)
