He Has Freed Us by His Blood

11/20/2023

Revelation 1:5–6 is a great consolation when you forget who you are in Christ.

"And from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood [6] and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."

Jesus is "the faithful witness," i.e., the obedient Son of God who did not turn against God when suffering came. He is "the firstborn of the dead," i.e., the first one to receive a glorious resurrection body. He is also "the ruler of kings on the earth," i.e., all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him.

Jesus "loves us." He "has freed us from our sins by His blood." And He has "made us a kingdom, priests to His God and Father." By God's grace given us by the Spirit, we are the church, the body of Christ. We are citizens of heaven. We are ambassadors of the kingdom of God. We belong to Christ; our lives are His for time and eternity.

"Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree" (Galatians 3:13).

Jesus has made us children of God. What an incredible blessing! What marvelous love! If the One who has all authority in heaven and earth is our security, than who can take our security from us? None can take away what God has given us in Christ. Therefore,

"to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."
